#MLB Team Name Tiles for the #RallyBird #Baseball #BoardGame–Update (#Mets)

This graphic design is a work in progress–and I think this current design is better. I’m trying to convey the feeling of a ballpark’s electronic billboard. I haven’t finished this yet for the 30 teams (x2 for Away and Home, Red and Blue versions), nor have I yet ordered physical prototypes. Since the RallyBird Baseball Board Game is generalist (no lineup, no rotation) in order to make it a quick, easy, tactical and thoughtful 1-hour board game that 2 people will actually play in real life, I think the hex tiles with colorful team names would help the theme. (I have provisional rules for adapting the RallyBird Baseball Board Game to historical MLB performance. I’m testing them out based on the 2017-2018 season.) The players would place these at the top of the board to the left (visitor) and right (home team) of the Innings scoreboard.

MLB Teams Add-On for RallyBird Baseball, Prototype #1

Another prototype just arrived! My 2018 MLB Teams Add-On for the RallyBird Baseball Board Game, Prototype #1.

To keep it inexpensive, there would be no box… owners of RB Baseball would just put these extra glove tiles and rules in that box. These Glove tiles are the same as the standard RB Glove tiles, but in different sets of colors, and a wider range of values and repeated values. I’d like to add team name tiles too, but that would increase the cost of course… I need to test out the ideas…

Additions to the RallyBird Baseball Beginner’s Guide

Discussions with early purchasers of the game motivated me to make a few pointed additions to the Beginner’s Guide pages of the RallyBird Baseball rules. These all have to do with the individual details of the cards–the ways in which they stand out from each other. A casual glance from a new player may not be enough to notice these idiosyncrasies.  (You can learn more about my rationale for it by watching my video explanation of baseball’s asymmetricity.) These At Bat differences will impact the success or failure of your offensive decisions.

You can see these changes in the red font of this screen capture:

To be clear, none of this changes any rules or text on the cards. These discussions by the way are so helpful. I welcome your comments and questions. Play ball!

Baseball Logic

In response to this question about a Runners In Scoring Position double play situation, I amended the rules to include this specification…

This does not change any rules. It’s just a clarification that makes explicit the logic of baseball. I want people with different levels of baseball confidence to enjoy the game, so I’m happy to make this addition. I write about all this more extensively in my previous post.
