New Box Art is Happening In #RallyBird #Baseball Land (plus Dramatic Myth of Sisyphus Reference)

In moments of pause, saith Camus, after Sisyphus has pushed his rock to the top of the hill, and it tumbles down again, he trudges down after it; and in that moment, before pushing it back up again, Sisyphus has his moment of triumph.

Things are happening in R-B-B-B-Land! Stay (trudge) tuned (trudge)!

I, and my massive shoulders, do thank you.

PS. I offer my apologies for using a semicolon.

Developments Press Forward with the RallyBird #Baseball #BoardGame!

*I received the latest prototype of the *mini* RallyBird Baseball Board Game, which features printed “meeples” (wooden person-shaped pawns) instead of glove tiles! I just need to make a minor change regarding the Outs tokens and revise the rules as needed… Meanwhile, I can’t offer pictures because….

* ….We received the first of several new baseball-o-dynamic RallyBird artwork elements which will I will incorporate as appropriate–including changes to the box. This means work with graphics software to conjure up the image…

*….And therefore I will need to order a new prototype of the *mini* RallyBird Baseball Board Game before sharing pictures.

*….BUT I already made graphic revisions to the standard RallyBird Board Game box, and ordered a copy of just the empty box. The manufacturer’s elves have chalked it on the master board in the queue to make. When I receive the new box, just try to stop me from sharing pictures of it with you!

*A manufacture has stamped out test samples of the 2018 MLB Team Tiles for me, and handed the box to the postal agency to arrive via the saddle bags of jet-powered ponies.

*I paid a “service” (legal) to review my customer facing elements and received a phonebook sized list of suggested changes. Do any of you remember what a phone book is? Included on this list was the jettisoning of my recently completed How To Play video for something shorter. Point taken, and I shed no tears. I merely glance upward with a momentarily stricken face. Then I look back horizontally with my cowboy cheek muscles manfully forcing upward smile factors.

*…Said “service” also had problems with my beautiful, beautiful rules. For example, there was no Overview (due to economy, but no one wants to hear my excuses.) For another example, I didn’t explain what a Double Play is. So with trepidation I add MAJOR RULE REVISION to my To Do list, as confabulating such a document not only requires editing work with words and pictures, but also producing a perfectly sized image file of the page (which then cannot easily suffer editing corrections). All the while, I need to continue to be handsome and not succumb to the call of little birds chirping outside the springtime window. And wait there’s more to do! Bust in all the needed information in a pleasing manner, while keeping in mind that page numbers come in sets determined by the manufacturer, and every extra bundle costs the consumer. We don’t want that! Do “we”?

*….Fortunately I am driven by wild horses as I sit cross-legged in the iron sledge of my determination. One horse is named Pop Fly, and the other is Ground Rule Double. I’m lucky to have these challenges to demolish and smash. So as I get back to work, I will do arm curls with heavy kettle bells to make the challenge a little harder. One-a and a two-a. One-a and a two-a….

#MLB Team Name Tiles for the #RallyBird #Baseball #BoardGame–Update (#Mets)

This graphic design is a work in progress–and I think this current design is better. I’m trying to convey the feeling of a ballpark’s electronic billboard. I haven’t finished this yet for the 30 teams (x2 for Away and Home, Red and Blue versions), nor have I yet ordered physical prototypes. Since the RallyBird Baseball Board Game is generalist (no lineup, no rotation) in order to make it a quick, easy, tactical and thoughtful 1-hour board game that 2 people will actually play in real life, I think the hex tiles with colorful team names would help the theme. (I have provisional rules for adapting the RallyBird Baseball Board Game to historical MLB performance. I’m testing them out based on the 2017-2018 season.) The players would place these at the top of the board to the left (visitor) and right (home team) of the Innings scoreboard.

The RallyBird Baseball Board Game’s Rules = Basically 2 Pages

The RallyBird Baseball Board Game‘s rules are 8 pages total, but the rules take up only 2 of those pages (page 2 and 3, below).  My point is that the rules are easy and concise. This allows you to concentrate on your tactics, with quick turns and decisions for offense and defense each At Bat. The information on the cards is intuitive and matches the board’s logic is multiple ways. Easy!

Okay, those are the main rules, pages 2 and 3. What about page 1? Page 1 is an overview of the game components…

Page 4 is a diagram of the mechanics, plus some optional rules…

Pages 5-6 of the rules are a Beginners Guide, and 7-8 are the Frequently Asked Questions. These pages support board gamers with less experience or those less confident about baseball. I designed the RallyBird Board Game to play!

MLB Teams Add-On for RallyBird Baseball, Prototype #1

IMG_7308.JPG
Another prototype just arrived! My 2018 MLB Teams Add-On for the RallyBird Baseball Board Game, Prototype #1.

To keep it inexpensive, there would be no box… owners of RB Baseball would just put these extra glove tiles and rules in that box. These Glove tiles are the same as the standard RB Glove tiles, but in different sets of colors, and a wider range of values and repeated values. I’d like to add team name tiles too, but that would increase the cost of course… I need to test out the ideas…

How to Play the RallyBird Baseball Board Game video (with narration and dynamic illustration)!

Not only does this video revise the one I posted last week in organization, it also adds my narration. It includes why play RallyBird, a thorough rules explanation, FAQ, sample of a real play session, and a picture of me. In the final portion, after being methodical for so long, some personality and exuberance escapes!  Cheers!

Testing MLB Team Rules for the RallyBird Baseball Board Game

I designed the RallyBird Baseball Board Game for a easy, 1-hour, thoughtful board game experience of the sport. This meant when I recently took on the task of adapting historic MLB team performance to Rally Bird, I did not try to drill down on the charismatic, individual statistical performance of players. Instead, these optional, add-on MLB rules I’m testing depend on team averages over the season. This is a necessary simplification to keep the RB board game quick and playable, yet with emphasis on decisions for offense and defense each At Bat.

Within these broad modifications, the decisions of the board game players and their dice determine the individuality of events. It’s fun for me to try to adapt MLB team performance to the characteristics of this board game. Does it succeed? I don’t know yet, but I’ve designed and ordered the components I need to test the playable asymmetry of the 2018 season. This includes a larger set of Glove defense tiles, and the print out of the adaption rules (1 page) and individual team ratings in RallyBird Board Game categories.

By the way, enjoy today! It’s opening day of the new MLB season! –PG
