New RallyBird Baseball ScorePage

Download the 2023 RallyBird Baseball scorepage pdf here.

Hello! It’s June, 2023! Baseball is well underway. The RallyBird Baseball Board Game is available and selling! MLB’s rule changes this year has cut game time by 41 minutes! How do you feel about it? So far I like it, as I think the time that crept in was not essential to the game (bloat), and returns it to more of a classic game flow. I also like that it arguably can increase the appeal of baseball to casual viewers.

I have conjured up a new, improved RallyBird Baseball scoresheet, which you can view and download below. Over time I’ll post some of my own filled-out scoresheets. My idea is that for those who want to try it, this scorepad can increase the enjoyment of the game, and increase rivalry and provide data for lively discussion (including but not limited to chatter, gloating and bragging). It also could lead to the fun of trying different tactics and seeing, over time, how they play out. There’s plenty of space for you to name the players if you wish.

I’ll look into including one of these double-sided pages in future releases of the RallyBird Baseball Board Game. I pause, however, because I wonder if I should include a small section in the rules that shows how to fill it out. Redoing the rules would be a huge project. Or maybe I should include a copy of a score page of a game I myself played out… What do you think?

Baseball Season 2023

The RallyBird Baseball Board Game is coming back in April 2023 with new board art and more, but it’s the same game.

Baseball Season has returned! I’m ready for it to be GREAT.

If we’re talking about Major League Baseball, I am rooting for the new pitch (and batter) clock that keeps the game pace moving. Total game lengths seem to be returning to ~two hours after an epoch of some time bloat.

If we’re talking about the Rallybird Baseball Board Game by Sir Deer & Owls Company, I think the new edition, due out in late April 2023, will also be GREAT.

This edition is mostly the same, but here are the changes:

New Original Art for Board and Tiles

The new board with players in action replacing the Gloves
A couple glove tiles, front and back

Smaller Box–It’s a new, slim design of box that opens with a hinge. It has tabs that lock on the other side. Aside from the art, the components haven’t changed. The board and cards are the same size. The rules booklet are the same size. Still, the new box is slimmer and a little smaller in length and depth.

Other than some of the art, and the box, it’s the same game.

RallyBird Baseball has been out in the world since 2018 and has proven itself to accomplish what it aims to do–provide a ~1-hour playable baseball board game for two people, with easy rules, meaningful decisions, real baseball spirit, and appeal for fans, casual or serious.

#RallyBird #Baseball #BoardGame Add-On Kit updated with 2019 Season Teams Data

Hooray! The RallyBird Baseball Add-On Kit comes with 2019 season team data! I didn’t make any adjustments for the alleged Astros pitch stealing. The 2018 season is still available to customers as a free download.

It seems like an act of hubris to compress the plentiful cosmos of numbers that reflect a baseball season’s team performance to the simple RallyBird parameters. But that’s what I’m here for. It makes me confront the vast swirlies of purple nebulae and with an act of will, turn the sublime into a 1 3/16 inch steel bolt. It brings me face to face with the strangeness of our baseball universe. Clearly, as the numbers show, it wasn’t the best overall performing team that won such an exciting World Series. This is to the credit of the team and the sport, and, perhaps, to their fans like me. It shows itself in defiance of the laws of physics, in defiance of math and logic. The flawed team beat their numerical betters. What does this mean? Where does this liberation from robotic destiny come from?

“Now listen to me! This game of baseball is only one half skill! The other half is something else…

I have Crunched the Numbers #MLB 2019

Update! This is a report! Yes, things are quiet, too quiet, in baseball land. Here at RallyBird HQ, I have converted the MLB 2019 season team performance into the exquisitely simple terms that RallyBird Baseball Board Game requires.

The crunched data looks like lists with notations! Not ready to step out and see the world, quite!

I need to make it pretty in a document, still. When ready, this is the version that will ship as printed paper with the Add-On Kit.  Customers who buy this will be able to download the 2018 season (and the 2019 season again) as PDFs from the merchant website.

It’s interesting to skinny dip in the pond of data and see how the range of baseball behavior has changed over the two seasons.

Here’s the unboxing video for the Add-On Kit which includes some long, emotional, lingering glances at the 2018 data and rules.
